Furnaces With Heat Pumps

Do you have a furnace? Do you have an air conditioning system attached to the furnace? If you are considering replacing the entire system because of age or efficiency, you may want to contemplate replacing that air conditioning system with a heat pump. I know what your thinking, A- People have told you that heat pumps put out "cold" air. B- You live in an area where you feel a heat pump would not be "practical". C- You may think that the furnace will only run at really cold temperatures and you would not have total control of the system. I have good news for you. It's called an optimizer control. When the indoor thermostat calls for heating, the optimizer stages the heat pump to come on first, but if the outdoor temperatures are lower than the optimizer's control temperature setting, the furnace operates instead. If the temperature rises, the heat pump initiates and runs as normal until the temperature drops below the set point again. The optimizer's balance points' (when the heat pump starts losing efficiency) setting is usually between 30°F to 35°F. Combine this system with a programmable thermostat and you will really see your energy savings jump! Every year you can enjoy the savings and the furnace's heat output in the same season. TECH EXTRA NOTE: Depending on the humidity levels of your home, you may need a humidifier attached to the system to regulate dryness (38-40%). Heat pumps tend to put out a moister heat than a fossil-fueled (oil/gas) furnace. This combination system will aid in regulating humidity levels especially during warmer outdoor temperatures where you would normally be using your furnace as your only source of heat.
